Fast and Easy

I hear them speaking,

weaving in and out of the conversation

rutting the grassy terrain

wearing tracks on my body

driving so much of history over weary landscapes

taking me to where I think I need to go

making it clear

I must use both eyes to see

I must use hands and feet to drive

But my gourd rises to the notion

that somehow, I must arrest this motion

hooked as I am, as we all are, on lubricated lust:

the quick, the easy and the cheap

made substantiated by some unseen

hands, worked to the bone

a whole poem unto their own

having been compelled by other hands,

another line of personalities

as brutal and as cruel

as the naught that sent us here

to do battle with ourselves

Who, In some perverted gesture

tossed a great spirit in the air

Shot it down with bird shot and rested as

Time bowed its head and stopped

Until the great spirit shattered, twinkled

and fell, a snowflake

landing on my outstretched tongue

was swallowed

Melting eons of unfinished business

into molecules of original essence

knitting it all together

in my throat

Rendering me, at first, incoherent

But then, the melted crystal cooled my wild mind

and allowed language to release itself with full intent

to spark the fire of comprehension and the will

to change the course of our cursed desires

as so many of us lift the torches of forbearance and apathy

allowing the dagger to be driven deep

Naught and great spirit,

have mercy on our souls

as the “best” of us have twisted and turned

So many into demented demons sucking blood

out of the rest of the world and are functioning

to destroy the very earthen being that we rely upon

and all that resides with us, all the trembling and terrible creatures

It is a cruel joke, the hate we harbor

for with our full knowledge and conceit

we cut down the very tree of life

It is a perverted gesture

full of waste and disgrace

Yet we battle ye with a ragged, distracted and illuminated face

Can we prevent ourselves from

lying wasted in the dust?

Let us try

We are thus compelled,

Let us try

I am most indignant

My face flushes red

My heart races

And I fail to drop dead

So what else is new?

Oy, I must learn to keep my head
